CRAIGSLIST REVIEW!

Craigslist is a classified advertisements website with sections devoted to jobs, housing, personals, for sale, items wanted, services, community, gigs, resumes, and discussion forums.

Last updated: April 9, 2014

With over 20 billion page views per month, and with over 80 million new classified advertisements each month, Craigslist is the leading classified service in any medium. The site receives over 2 million new job listings each month, making it one of the top job boards in the world and is a good source of job listings in a specific location. The classified advertisements range from traditional buy/sell ads and community announcements to personal hookup ads. Jobs are listed by location and category. You can also post your resume to your local Craigslist site.

However, being the biggest free classifieds medium in the world  Craigslist  also attract various scammers who offer wide range of employment related scams, so always check and double check any listings before you apply. To be fair Craigslist has a user flagging system to quickly identify illegal and inappropriate postings, but nevertheless many fishy ads still go through the filter.

The easiest way to find jobs on Craigslist is to go to the location site where you are interested in looking for jobs. You'll see a directory of location based sites on the right side of the main craigslist user interface or you can go dedicated craigslist city pages, note that not all cities have dedicated page, so use the nearest location instead.

When you are there you can just browse the jobs or do a custom keyword search.

Now comes the tricky part, Craigslist is a very popular site for classified ads with plenty of employment offers. However, employers can post jobs anonymously, so you don't know who is doing the hiring. That is the main reason there are so many scammers there. With that in mind, exercise extreme caution when applying for any jobs. Always google the employers company name before applying. Avoid jobs that seem too good to be true. If the ad doesn’t feature company name, inquire about the company name and ask for a business phone number before arranging any meeting or interview.

Never meet with potential employer at a private residence or questionable location out of public view. Legitimate employers will generally be willing to meet with you at their corporate location.

If the potential employer doesn’t have offices in your location arrange meeting in public place, for extra security consider bringing a friend to the interview. Or try to arrange phone or Skype interview.

As free classifieds are the most popular way of advertising. Another option is to post your resume on Craigslist since employers can search through resumes to identify candidates. However, it’s imperative here to be cautious to avoid getting scammed. Don’t include any identifiable personal information beside email, and for email we recommend to use your secondary email account, or even better consider setting up a separate email account to use just for craigslist job resume.
