Setting an account is very easy. Once in, you can start submitting designs to Spreadshirt marketplace, and make money from home each time an item with your design is sold. Or you can setup a free customized shirt shop and earn money with your designs or the designs from spreadhirt community. One of the best features of Spreadshirt is that you can setup your commission for each design. Note that all designs that you submit must pass the Spreadshirt copyright and technical inspection. Also with free account you can upload limited number of designs, and for unlimited submissions you will need to get premium account which costs money. However if you have tons of designs, you can minimize the cost, by going premium for just one month and submit everything during this period.
User’s interface of Spreadshirt is good but not excellent, while it’s quite easy to submit and create designs, also it feels that some things need to be polished especially navigation. You cannot save your designs as projects and you cannot add special instructions to the printer.
For beginning we recommend just uploading your designs to the marketplace, this will give you experience and insight what sells and what doesn’t, how tag words for promoting your designs work, how designs are accepted by their printing machines, what type of designs are more appealing to the customers etc.. In order other users/shops use your designs in the marketplace you will need to be reasonable with your commission, we recommend 3$ per design and no matter what don’t go over$5.
Once you gain this priceless experience you might be ready to setup your custom shop. If you have basic knowledge of HTML or you can customize your shop and make it stand out. Otherwise you can choose from few basic templates.
In order the shop to be successful you will need to treat it like full time job. You may also want to invest in software and learn how to make your designs in vector format, because the prints that are vector based look much better that raster graphics when applied to apparel, also raster graphics cannot be applied to all items, while vector can.
To gain exposure you will need to promote your shop and designs on social networks. You can even use google ad words, which cost money, but it’s good to experiment for a week or two because this can generate sales, you will determine if it’s worth by doing simple math on the return on investment. You can even create your own website with your own domain name and merge it with spreadshirt platform.
